Frontage:
Camp Tissue and a Plan will require a 50 ft by 50 ft plot. The front area by the street will consist of a 20 ft by 10 ft shade structure for public events, with couches or other seating and a large open area for dancing/mingling. There will also be a 5 to 10 foot open area for outdoor games and events.
The only entrance to the camp will be through the front activity structure, in order to accommodate our RFID camper recognizer for our camp. Basically, we each wear an anklet that allows a device buried at the entrance to our common area to recognize when we come and go. This device will be connected to some tall structure visible from anywhere on the playa (not pictured, probably balloons on strings with various colored LEDs). This will allow all campmates to know who is at home, at least at night!
Art:
A bit to the side, our friends from Camp Safe House will be creating an zombie art installation with a 7 ft curved participatory display board and zombie graveyard (fenced). This will be slightly separated from the rest of the camp structures.
"Camp Safe House" is more of an installation than a camp. The thought is that we are showing the evolution of the zombie apocalypse. The "Safe House" if you will is an actual safe house meant for people to find refuge against the masses of zombies out on the playa (so in another words, it's in the future). It consists of 3 main pieces. The first is a wall that has writing and notes on it of people leaving their info and plans for their loved ones to find if they make it there. We will also leave tools so burners can leave their own notes (paint markers, crayons, non-moop stuff). Sort of a cross between the wall in Battlestar and the wall in Left 4 Dead. Some examples of these notes might be:
- "John. We waited for you but we can't wait anymore. Headed to Baltimore. We hear there's an army there"
- "FYI - I hear if you get bit you turn after 4 hours!"
- "No...it's 6. Happened to a friend of mine"
- "If you are reading this, head to Austin. They have bunkers"
The second piece of the installation is a timeline of how the zombie apocalypse happened. This is a series of smaller walls with pictures and writing starting from the z-day and leading to the current. It's basically just telling the story of how the world ended.
The final part of the installation is the graveyard. We were thinking that this could be graves with camp member names on the tombstones. We even considered doing something cheesy like having zombie hands sticking out of them. The tombstones will have notes like, "Will not rise".
Mid and Rear of Camp:
In the middle of the camp we will have a 12 ft geodesic dome as a kitchen and camp lounge area, and a hexiyurt to store coolers and food. Along one side and the rear of the camp will be the vehicles: One 10 ft moving truck, one pick up with attached trailer, and 3 cars. The Shower and attached evaporation pond will be in the rear of the camp. The rest of the middle space will be various tents/yurts/other sleeping spaces. We will have a bicycle powered generator located between the front activity space and the kitchen, for all our power needs.
