We hereby designate Will Dabney (Scout) as our lead Green Guru, who will ensure that our camp and campers understand the 6 Rs (Respect, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Restore). He will also take part in planning our purchases and encourage us to reuse materials, recycle materials and reduce what we bring.
Will will see that all camp members understand and agree with the policies and practices of Leave No Trace (LNT) at Burning Man and understand our camp's LNT plan. He will oversee daily tasks and will have a plan in place when we get ready to leave. When it's time to break down and sweep our camp for every last trace. He or a designated Captain will make sure EVERYTHING left goes with us.
We plan to reduce energy use and incorporate energy efficient practices. We will use pedal-power to recharge batteries that will provide the majority of our energy needs. Our camp will be cooled using a custom swamp cooler which uses a minimal amount of energy and serves dual purposes of evaporating gray water and cooling the interior of the shade structure.
With the exception of transportation to and from Black Rock City, our energy needs will be very modest, and supplied by riding a stationary bike which will charge car batteries for later use. We will illuminate our camp with energy efficient light bulbs, LED's or EL wire. We expect our "Karaoke-Powered Cycling Night" event to consume the most energy of any of our activities. At this event, we will power a 50-100 watt guitar amp, a laptop and lighting. However, all electricity for this event will be generated in real-time by participants on our pedal-powered generator.
